Question by jenniferj402: What type of ham radio should I buy?
I want a ham radio that will reach at least 500 miles. Any suggestions? I’m new and don’t know squat, but I’m learning and WILL be getting a license.

You can get a handheld that will reach any repeater tower more than a few miles away, So you don’t need thousands of dollars of equipment. You’d use the repeated to propogate your signal whatever distance you want.

You can also download apps to use your smartphone and the internet, once you get your license.

icon makes some good handhelds, but find a local club on the net first.

ALSO, you need to get your license before you cna legally transmit, so do that first.
