Portable Power for Ham Radios

A recent video about portable HF transceiver kits generated a lot of questions on what to use for a power supply. So, in preparation for an upcoming camping trip, this video was created to share one method for  portable power when out in the field.

Just built my first battery…a lifepo4 25ah…for my radio go box. Using a lithium is nice for a couple reasons. One the available usable voltage is consistently 13.2-13.3 for the majority of the ah rating. Its lighter in weight. And also the stored energy can be better used due to the increased depth of discharge of a lithium over lead acid. Ive used lead acid, but have been converted to a lifepo4 fan over the past months.

Thank you. Helpful information, well presented. Insofar as you know, is it safe to operate a transceiver, like a Yaesu FT-897, directly from a NOCO GB 30 Genius Booster? Herman

I really like your videos, how you present the content and the content, but I am a little confused with the wattage and amps mentioned in the video compared to Ohm's Law P=E*I. Can you help provide additional explanation ?

Ok what besides a battery do I need to run a 25 watt ft857d. People talk about regulators etc. but I have a nice gel cell 12v with a good current duty cycle . Recharging is off a charger but no funds for solar etc. you have. I have been warned using it might damage rig?? Ok what am I missing in the set up?

How would you go about powering a 25W mobile radio (mostly listening) in a go box that needs to to be on 12 hrs a day, for 10 days in mid-october (we sometimes get snow, so it's cold and days are getting shorter)? We do bring a generator to recharge some batteries…but we don't want to keep it running all the time. Cheers!

There was a cardinal sitting over your right shoulder taking all of that in. Thanks for the informative video
