My father was a ham radio operator for YEARS. He inherited equipment from several family members who passed away, in addition to what he already used. Now my Dad is also gone, and we have a storage house full of equipment that we don’t know what to do with. Most of it still works, I’m pretty sure. Dad took good care of his electronics.
SO, do we find a buyer or a place to donate the equipment to? If so, how? And if we sell it, how would we begin to know what would be a fair price? I hate to just send it to the junkyard because it was such a vital part of my Dad’s life…..but I don’t know what else to do.

well you should have a yard sell or a garage sell to sell all the stuff but don’t put price tags on them yet and set them out and when a costumer come and they ask how much it cost then you ask them back ”how much do you think it cost” so that the costumer will think that the price is fair good luck on whatever you do will it

don’t throw anything away unless it smells like crap. if you don’t wan’t to do any work you could contact a ham in your area and have him tell you what it is worth. then go to QRZ.com and sell it on the online swapmeet. that is a really good website; i got a very decent power supply from there. I would buy it all, but i have no money. I do know of a high school amateur radio club that would be overjoyed if you donated the equipment to them. they would make great use of it! their callsign is KC9IJT if you want to find them. that same website (QRZ.com) has a callsign search. i hope i helped! Contact a local Ham club for help. They’re usually helpful people and I’m sure they’d be willing to help you set up a table at a swap meet/find buyers for the stuff. Don’t just give it away though, that stuff is really expensive.
Definitely DON’T throw anything away until you know what it’s worth. Some vintage gear is worth considerable $ $ $ , especially if it’s in good working condition.
What you need is an expert — another older ham operator who knows what’s what and can give you an idea of what it’s worth. Did your dad have any local buddies he shared his hobby with? Did he belong to a local ham club? Those are the best places to start. It might take some time to find an expert, but it’ll definitely be worth the time. Even stuff that looks like junk might be worth something — if nothing else, then for salvage value to repair another piece of equipment. Most repair parts for vintage gear are no longer available, and haven’t been for years.
If you can’t find anyone to help you out, then find an auctioneer and have them auction the stuff off. Ham radio equipment auctions don’t come around very often, so I’ll bet you’d get a big turnout. They’ll handle the whole thing and generally charge about 25 – 40% depending on where the auction is held and how big the lot is.
